Trip to Tickhill Castle

A small group of our Committee and FoSC members recently enjoyed a private tour of Tickhill Castle thanks to current owner Barry Moss.  Barry took over the lease of the Castle from the Duchy of Lancaster in 2018 and went about restoring the Old Hall where his family currently live. The castle walls and gatehouse which date from the 11th Century are in remarkable condition and are a great example of a Motte and Bailey castle.  There is also a significant link to Sheffield Castle as Roger de Busli was Lord of the Manor of Sheffield and Tickhill at that time.

Information and photographs showing the remains of Tickhill Castle, near Doncaster are here:

The Castle is only open to the general public once a year, this year the date is Sunday 12 June. Its well worth a visit to walk the grounds, see the remains and great views also from the top of the motte.

Thanks to Carolyn for the photos!
