Dr David Clarke explores…
In this online event using Zoom, FoSC Committee member Dr. David Clarke from Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Contemporary Legend explores two legendary heroes from Sheffield’s folklore. Considering the city’s rich history of rebellion, David will talk about the last Saxon Earl of Hallamshire, Waltheof, who was executed by William the Conqueror for treason, and the stories that place the alleged birthplace of Robin Hood in Loxley. He will also consider how Robin has become a modern symbol of rebellion against national authority. The talk is part of Sheffield Libraries ‘Rebels Season’.
