Castle Market has closed its doors for the final time. The Council have sealed the entrance to the the accessible remains of the Castle and removed the plaque put up by Sheffield Rotary for safekeeping. FOSC has expressed concern about the possibility of the remains flooding as they have done recently, but with major demolition planned, there was little else that could be done.
Demolition is due to commence later in the year but there will be much going on and off site before then, not least the Friends Of Sheffield Castle display in the Central Library in February. You can visit the display of finds from the Castle in Weston Park Museum.
